About Up Next

Up Next offers students the place to refer to when they are curious on the world of politics and the news that hits headlines whenever they catch the morning news before leaving for school or overhearing the adults in their lives discussing topics they haven’t been informed of. Our goal is to create a source for students of and around our age to rely on up to date news that they can understand and relate to. Up next focuses on the students who are up next to vote and up next to create change in today’s society.

Abby Boursiquot

Founder and Writer

My name is Abby Boursiquot and I’m one of the founders of Up Next. I come from a household of two passionate and hardworking Haitian parents who have instilled the same qualities onto my brother and I. My motivation to create this blog was driven by my interest in social justice and the authority that is brought down to each generation in hopes of enacting positive change in our society. I believe that Up Next brings our readers the trustworthy and engaging news we deserve to be shown in the media and will educate those who strive to be our next change makers.

Frankely Ramirez

Founder and Writer

My name is Frankely Ramirez, I am half Dominican and half Peruvian and a first generation US student, and I am one of the founders of Up Next. My passion for politics came about during quarantine when I found myself eager to learn about the political climate we were in at the time. Throughout this time, I noticed that not a lot of students my age were interested or involved, which is why I decided to create a source for students to become more politically active and shed light to policies that might affect them. I believe that as the next age group that will vote in elections, we should be more knowledgeable on the political climate we are in, whether it is local or on the national level, which Up Next strives to push for.

Lauryn Carr

Senior Writer

My name is Lauryn Carr, and I am a junior at Patriot High School. My interest in political science sparked when I took journalism last year, where I got a glimpse of news and political reporting's impact on society, motivating me to delve deeper into politics and global affairs. As a passionate advocate for helping others, especially students of my age group, I believe in unfolding policies and perspectives often not shown in mainstream media, making Up Next a great platform for this goal! As the next generation of voters, it's essential for us to be well-informed about the political environment, both locally and nationally, and Up Next aims to make that possible. I look forward to contributing my insights and passion to this project, aligning with making a difference and promoting political awareness among my peers, creating a more engaged community.

Stephanie Ferguson

Senior Writer

Hi I’m Stephanie Ferguson, I’m an African and Native American rising junior at Gainesville High School. My main passion is technology and STEM, but I’ve always been interested in researching politics. My friends can tell you that I always have a new “topic of the week” that I love researching and telling them about over lunch. Over time I’ve noticed people develop their own questions and curiosities about politics. So I hope by joining Up Next I can provide easier access to how current events impact and effect not only adults but everyone.

Amani Jordan

Junior Writer

I’m Amani Jordan, a Junior at South County High School. I’m very passionate about reaching and connecting to my community of peers in many different ways, but especially in ways that can make a difference. I joined Up Next because I felt like this was amazing opportunity to do just that. Many kids my age aren’t even aware of how big politics are involved in our every day lives or don’t know where to find the sources to become more educated and I believe the more educated we are, the more change we can create. Up Next provides an amazing source of different information and news and creates a gateway for students to realize just how much they can create change for our future. I hope by joining Up Next I can continue connecting to my peers and inspire change for our futures.

Hi my name is Olivia Kim and I am a junior at Patriot High School. Math and science are my strongest subjects, but I have always been interested in history and politics. Furthermore, acknowledging current affairs will better allow us to make connections within the community. With Up Next, I hope to spread my passion for politics to those in our generation.
